Whose History? Which Tradition?
The Supreme Court and Constitutional Meaning
The 2027 American University Law Review Annual Spring Symposium will examine the Supreme Court’s increasing reliance on history and tradition as a framework for constitutional interpretation, exploring its historical foundations, methodological challenges, and evolving role in constitutional doctrine. Bringing together leading scholars, jurists, and practitioners, the Symposium will consider how courts select, interpret, and apply historical traditions and what this approach means for the future of constitutional law.
