Dear Reader,

Welcome to Issue 4 of Volume 74 of the American University Law Review.
Since 1985, the Law Review has proudly dedicated its fourth issue to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. The Federal Circuit has nationwide jurisdiction in international trade, government contracts, patents, trademarks, and veterans’ benefits. The Law Review is proud to highlight the work of this unique appellate court.

Alongside this publication, the Law Review hosts an annual symposium dedicated to the court. Volume 74’s Federal Circuit Symposium took place on October 4, 2024, at the American University Washington College of Law. We were honored to welcome two keynote speakers, the Honorable Leonard P. Stark, Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and Amy A. Karpel, Chair of the United States International Trade Commission and Law Review alumna.

I am grateful to our distinguished authors for their continued contributions to legal scholarship. Their work drives meaningful progress in the legal field and provides the foundation for our efforts on the Law Review. I deeply appreciate the hard work of my fellow editors in bringing this issue to publication, as well as the guidance and support from our exceptional professors and Faculty Advisory Committee over the past year.

This issue explores the crucial role that the Federal Circuit plays in shaping legal doctrine, addresses questions that impact our veterans, and analyzes the effects of recent Federal Circuit case law. I hope you find the scholarship featured here to be enlightening and thought-provoking.

Thank you for your support and attention. Please enjoy Volume 74.4.

Sincerely,

Peter T. Sabini
Senior Federal Circuit Editor
